Columbia Legal Services, Institutions Project

The Institutions Project represents people confined
in Washington's jails, prisons, juvenile detention facilities, mental
health facilities, and facilities for people with developmental
disabilities. This work has focused on conditions of confinement,
discrimination, sentencing and placement, alternatives to
institutionalization, and access to courts, as well as issues related to
rehabilitation, re-entry, and reductions in recidivism.

Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund
- CA Prisoners Only. DREDF takes on very few cases
each year. We receive far more requests for assistance than our
resources allow us to take on. If we cannot take your case we can
provide you with referrals to other organizations. Please do not send
original supporting materials. Please note, we do not provide assistance
with disability benefits such as denial of Social Security Disability
benefits.Assistance is generally limited to providing basic
disability civil rights informational materials and referrals, with
attention to CDCR state prisoners. DREDF does not provide assistance
with individual disability benefits applications or denial of Social
Security Disability benefits. Do not send original supporting materials.

Focus area/description: Advocacy for disabled
people in county jails, but not prisons, within the Texas Department of
Criminal Justice system.

Litigates and monitors class action law suits
regarding medical care, mental health care, and disabled access for
prisoners in CA only. Also distributes self-help legal material on a
number of topics. Write with your concerns.
